MEFRIT,spol. s r.o.(previously Emox spol. s r.o.) was founded in 1992 within the privatisation of the state enterprise MEFRIT Mělník. The company was founded by the management of the state enterprise with the aim of maintaining the old tradition of production of frits in the Mělník region and to support its further continuation and development. MEFRIT, spol. s r.o. became the 100% owner of the state enterprise Mefrit in November 1994. Ever since its very

beginning, the company benefited from the many-years experience of its new owners and the employees of the Mefrit plant in the field of silicate chemistry. The entrepreneurial programme, which was prepared by the management of the company for the period from 1994 to 2000, resumes the ideas of the entrepreneurial plan worked out by the management of the state enterprise MEFRIT after its disaffiliation from Spolek pro chemickou a hutní výrobu (Association for Chemical and Metallurgical Production) in Ústí nad Labem in 1990. The process of modernization and renewal of the plant, which has already begun, continues under the new management. This is an opportunity to demonstrate that in the newly created social climate even a Czech company may be an equal partner to foreign companies with a high reputation, supposing that equal and favourable business conditions have been created. A necessary condition is of course the capital support of the banking sector, which the management succeeded in securing and, furthermore, created a basis for further development according to the economic results of the plant. With respect to previous orientation of the plant on the Czech and Slovak market, and with declining production of some customers in this sector, it was necessary to reorient the production towards export within a short period of time. The first condition for success was to have a range and quality comparable with foreign competition. This was achieved by introducing a quality management system according to ISO 9001. From 1993 to 1996 the company increased the volume of exports at least by 30%. The basis of this success was the creation of a network of business representatives, dealers, and sales representatives abroad. A further condition was the extension of the range of goods and product types to bring them into line with the worldwide trends. Ceramic frits with single-firing, frits for production of floor tiles with high abrasive resistance, and engobes for various firing technologies have been introduced gradually. New products have also been introduced for enamel plants, e.g. the new frits for boilers, ETC enamels for kitchen utensils production, frits applicable for coating degreased steel sheet, colour titanium frits, and recently also what is called KOMBI enamels for coating in a powder and wet process. Great emphasis was placed in the years 1996 to 1998 on reducing the amount of emissions by building the filtering equipment for combustion products from melting furnaces. With respect to the fact that our melting furnaces have been built with sufficient capacity, our milling capacities are being gradually extended for milling frits and raw materials for the silicate and metallurgical industry. Our deliveries include, not only goods produced by us, but also additives and raw materials necessary for our clients’ productions.
